Bohler Uddeholm Africa is the only "One Stop Shop" when it comes to tool steels. We are able to make these claims after having invested heavily over the passed few years into business areas that compliment our business. This means that we are able to provide a service like none other in South Africa. We have 100% control and traceability of our materials because we do not outsource any of our operations.
It is through building customer relationships that we strive to meet our next goal, which is to exceed the title of tool steel merchant and to rather become a business partner. Bohler Uddeholm Africa is looking to provide specific tooling solutions to our customers in order to maximize their profitability.

Hot Work Tool Steel - Forging Market
Plastic Mould Tool Steel - Plastic Injection Market
Cold Work Tool Steel - Forming Market; Long Production Runs
2006 has been an exciting year so far. Our team at Bohler Uddeholm Africa, after running an extensive market research initiative, introduced the new High Performance grades aimed at benifiting the market by providing longer tool life. These new grades are:
W360, a new Hot Work Tool Steel with excellent wear resistance (toughness is not sacrificed). This new grade will be (for now) mainly aimed at the forging market, however, W360 has also been very successful in cold work applications where toughness is required as well as plastic injection moulding on complicated dies.
For a South African case study select this link
W403, is a Hot Work Tool Steel which has an excellent resistance to heat checking and is particularly suited to the die casting industry.
K340, is a Cold Work Tool Steel which has previously been introduced into the South African Market. This grade has been greatly accepted by the market and is commonly referred to as a big brother to 1.2379 grades. K340 has excelled in applications including: blanking and forming.
K390, is a Cold work Powder Metallurgical Tool Steel. This material's ability to ensure long production runs is what makes this material so extraordinary. An automated process iether blanking or fine blanking is the application most suited for (but not limmited to) this grade which will prove to be incredibly cost effective due to a reduced price per piece resulting from the long production run.
M315, this grade is not a ESR grade. M315's chemical composition gives this grade the best machinability on the market.
M333, is a Plastic Pould Tool Steel with outstanding polishability charactaristics. Should an application require a mirror finnish (surface finnish) this material is able to achieve it with the minimum ammount of effort.
This News Letter will be the first of many that will be posted on this page. This document covers issues such as "the cost iceberg", "heat treatment" and "plasma nitriding" just to name a few. Bohler Uddeholm Africa will also be advertising in many local magazines such as the Metal Working News, Engineering News, and Plastinews.
I hope you find our articles interesting and informative.
